At Smile Together, we believe that great oral health is about more than just dentistry — it’s about supporting healthier, happier communities. That’s why we’re proud to champion local organisations who share our values and are making a real difference in our community.
One such inspiring organisation is Trelya’s Community Cafe at the Lescudjack Centre in Penzance — the very same building that houses our local dental practice. Operated by the incredible team at Trelya, the café provides a safe, warm and welcoming space for individuals and families in need.
The Café runs a “Pay It Forward” scheme, where generous donations from customers help provide free meals and drinks for those facing financial hardship. Anyone in need can simply pick a ticket from the board and hand it to the café team — no questions asked. It’s a beautifully simple, stigma-free way of helping those in need.
Every week, the café also distributes fresh fruit, vegetables, milk, bread, and other essentials to individuals and families. They even collaborate with Beauty Banks UK to provide free hygiene and personal care items. As a FareShare partner and part of the Gleaning Network Cornwall, Trelya ensures no food goes to waste — redistributing surplus stock to those who need it most.
Inspired by their impact, The Smile Together Team are proud to be supporting the café with:
- A £3,600 donation to cover free meals throughout 2024/25
- A further commitment of £300 per month in 2025/26, totalling £7,200 over two years
With meals averaging £6 each, our support will help fund around 1,200 hot meals — a real lifeline for local people experiencing financial hardship, especially in the challenging months after Christmas or during cost-of-living spikes.
Currently, the café provides around 50 free meals each month — and demand is only rising.
Being located right next door to the café has given our Penzance dental team the opportunity to see their work first hand. It’s great to support a local initiative that’s delivering real help to those who need it most in our community, making a difference every day.
