Inlays and Onlays

Inlays are used to repair the chewing surface of a back tooth and mend larger cavities where fillings are not suitable. An Onlay is very similar only it is slightly larger and sits over larger chewing surfaces.

Inlays and Onlays can be made from an alloy metal or ceramic, both of which are tooth-coloured so as to blend with the natural colour of your teeth.

This does involve two to three appointments as the treatment is tailored to the individual, with impressions  taken and sent to a lab where a custom Inlay or Onlay is made for you so that it fits perfectly. Depending on the size of the cavity you may need to be numbed around the tooth with local anaesthetic to ensure you are comfortable throughout the procedure.
