Smile Together is commissioned by NHS England to provide urgent and emergency dental care to patients who would otherwise be unable to access treatment. Demand for this service is very high and the criteria set by our commissioners is very strict.

We therefore offer emergency appointments that are independent of our NHS service, for patients who require urgent or emergency care but have been unable to secure one of our NHS appointments via our Call Centre and do not wish to wait and try again the next day.

Unlike our NHS urgent and emergency care provision, our independent emergency appointments can be booked for any urgent dental need and patients can expect to be seen within 48 hours.

How do I book an emergency appointment?

Contact our Call Centre on0333 405 0290– if there are no NHS appointment slots available, you will be offered the option of booking an emergency appointment independent of the NHS. If you choose this option you will be signposted to one of our friendly receptionists who will discuss your dental needs and options. If you wish to go ahead, your appointment will be booked and a deposit of £60 taken (this is refundable if you cancel with at least 24 hours’ notice).

What can I expect at my emergency appointment?

In your consultation your dentist will discuss your concerns, make a diagnosis and carry out treatment of that diagnosis. Depending on your diagnosis, this may include:

  • X-rays
  • A filling (white or silver as appropriate, noting our Keast Mews Dental Centre is amalgam free) – multiple fillings will incur additional cost
  • An extraction – multiple extractions may incur additional cost
  • Recementing crowns, veneers or bridges

If your consultation reveals other dental problems that cannot be treated within your emergency appointment, you will be asked to book a routine follow-up appointment. Your dentist’s priority in your emergency appointment is to get you out of pain.

Please be aware that we will require a deposit when you book an appointment - this will be deducted from your bill for the relevant treatment at your next visit. We understand that things sometimes come up, so your deposit will not be affected if you alter your appointment with over 24 hours' notice. We will always be as flexible as possible with you but reserve the right to retain your deposit in case of late cancellations (any cancellation with less than 24 hours’ notice) or late arrivals which result in us not being able to see you (for example, arriving c:15 minutes late for a 20-30 minute appointment). It is very difficult for us to offer care to other patients if little notice is given. Loss of opportunity to treat patients in need increases the waiting times for appointments and the cost to run the surgery. We will always try to be sensitive to personal circumstances in the event of late cancellations. If you register for our Patient Plan you’ll get 10% discount on routine dental treatments.
