Summer may be drawing to a close, but our Smarter Smiles outreach team made the most of the season — rain or shine — by getting out into the heart of our communities to promote better oral health across Cornwall.

Following the success of previous years, we were once again delighted to support Home-Start Kernow’s summer picnics across the county — from Penzance to Saltash. These free, family-friendly events offer parents and carers of children under five a chance to connect, play, and access vital support. As always, our team was there alongside our much-loved mascot Dylan the Dragon, handing out oral health packs and delivering fun, hands-on brushing demos that help build positive oral health habits from an early age.

Our team also joined a wide range of health and wellbeing events, proudly partnering with other local organisations to reach even more people of all ages. These included:

  • Cornwall Neighbourhood for Change Health and Wellbeing Pop-Ups in Pool and Redruth
  • Nansledan Community Engagement Wellness Day
  • Guinness Partnership Community Information Day
  • Feel Good Fair at Humphry Davy School in Penzance
  • The ever-popular Stithians Show, one of Cornwall’s biggest rural events

We provided free oral health packs, delivered oral cancer screenings, and spoke with hundreds of people about looking after their smiles. From children brushing Dylan’s teeth to adults learning how to check for early signs of mouth cancer, we’re proud to be improving oral health literacy — and helping people feel confident and informed about their dental care.

We know that tooth decay remains the most common reason for hospital admissions among children aged 6–10, and access to regular dentistry continues to be a challenge for many across Cornwall. That’s why our mission-led, B Corp certified team continues to deliver outreach like this: to reduce oral health inequalities through education, prevention and partnership.

These events are a brilliant reminder of the impact we can have when we work together, bringing health, wellbeing and positivity to our communities — both inside and outside of the dental surgery.
