On Friday 20th June, we joined the Employee Ownership Association and fellow employee-owned businesses across the country in celebrating the thirteenth annual EO Day – the national celebration of employee ownership in the UK. This year’s theme was #EOSmile, and it couldn’t have been more on point for us at Smile Together!
Smile Together became an employee-owned community interest company (CIC) in 2016 to give our employees, as shareholders, a genuine voice in the business and its future development. We’ve positively thrived together in this environment, delivering care to those who need us most across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, while reinvesting 100% of our profits back into improving patient facilities and supporting local communities.
To mark EO Day 2025, our elected Shareholder Impact Board (SIB) organised a delicious cream tea celebration at each of our locations – the perfect excuse to come together, reflect on our shared achievements, and embrace the inclusive and collaborative culture we’re building at Smile Together. There was plenty of laughter, lots of EO smiles, and of course some great photos!
Over in Truro, the team took things one step further and created a brilliant video where each team member shared one word to describe what being employee-owned means to them – an inspiring and personal insight into the impact EO has on us all. You can watch the video on our social media here.
It’s always fantastic to see just how much being part of an employee-owned business means to our colleagues. From having a say in how we work, to being part of decision-making and shaping our future together, the sense of ownership is real and meaningful.
We’re so grateful to our Shareholder Impact Board Reps for organising the celebration, and to all our teams for getting involved and making the day such a success.
EO Day is a reminder of the power of employee ownership – how it brings people together, encourages new ideas, and builds businesses where everyone has a voice. At Smile Together, we’re proud to say we’re Proudly EO every day of the year – but especially on EO Day!
