We’re excited to announce that our Smiles at Sea project has been shortlisted in this year’s Dental Awards for ‘Best Outreach or Charity Initiative’.
Smiles at Sea saw us take a mobile dental unit to fishing communities across Cornwall and Brixham who rarely get to see a dentist due to the demands of their work – 70% of those we saw hadn’t seen a dentist for at least 5 years. A genuine partnership initiative, Smiles at Sea was delivered by Smile Together in collaboration with the Sea Hospital Society, The Fishermen’s Mission and Healthy Cornwall.
The awards will be presented at a glittering awards ceremony which takes place during the British Dental Conference and Dentistry Show at the NEC in May – Smile Together are attending this event on stand number D65, with Blue Sky People.
Smile Together was a finalist in The Dental Awards 2018 as ‘Practice of the Year – South’, just one of several national award nominations we received last year helping to demonstrate just what can be achieved by employee-ownership with a single mission of making our local communities healthier and happier.
The Dental Awards is considered throughout the industry to be the most original and respected awards programme in UK dentistry and being shortlisted is a tremendous accolade. This year is significant for these Awards as 2019 proudly marks the 20th anniversary of this prestigious event that for many years has sought to recognise the outstanding individuals and teams whose dedication and drive continues to raise standards throughout the UK dentistry profession.
