A new chapter for Smile Together: bringing our community-focused approach to Gloucester

Smile Together
Back to News

It’s an exciting time for everyone at Smile Together.

On 1 July 2026, we opened the doors to Quayside Dental Centre in Gloucester, marking the first time we’ve taken our community-focused approach to NHS dentistry beyond Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

The new Dental Access Centre has been developed in partnership with NHS Gloucestershire Integrated Care Board (ICB) and Gloucestershire County Council, with the aim of helping more people access urgent NHS dental care when they need it.

And while Gloucester represents a new chapter for us, we’re equally committed to continuing to invest in the communities where Smile Together began.

Bringing care closer to the people who need it

Quayside Dental Centre has seven treatment rooms and provides daytime, evening and limited weekend appointments for patients requiring urgent dental care and stabilisation.

Patients can access the service through NHS 111 or directly through the dental centre, with follow-up care provided where clinically required.

The centre is designed to help people across Gloucestershire access care closer to home, particularly at a time when accessing NHS dentistry can be challenging.

For us, it’s about more than opening another dental centre. It’s about taking what we’ve learned from delivering NHS dental services across Cornwall and using that experience to support another community.

Continuing to invest in Cornwall

Our growth into Gloucestershire doesn’t mean taking our focus away from Cornwall.

In fact, 2026 has already been a big year for investment.

We opened our new Falmouth dental practice in January, followed by our new Camborne practice in July. These new services are helping strengthen NHS dental provision and improve access to urgent dental care for patients across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

Together with our existing practices and community services, these investments are helping us reach more patients and provide care where it’s needed most.

Supporting the next generation of dentists

We’re also particularly proud that Quayside Dental Centre has been approved as an NHS Dental Foundation Training Practice.

That means the centre will play a role in supporting newly qualified dentists as they begin their careers, helping to develop the future NHS dental workforce.

For us, investing in dentistry isn’t just about the services we provide today — it’s also about helping build a stronger dental workforce for the future.

Growing with purpose

As an employee-owned Community Interest Company and the UK’s first B Corp-certified dental practice, our growth has always been about more than simply getting bigger.

Our purpose is to tackle oral health inequalities and help create healthier, happier communities.

That means carefully considering where we can make the biggest difference, investing in our people and services, and using our experience to support communities facing challenges accessing dental care.

“Opening our new Dental Access Centre in Gloucester is an exciting milestone for Smile Together and a fantastic opportunity to bring our community-focused approach to NHS dentistry to a new area.

“Growing into Gloucestershire allows us to share our experience and values with another community, while continuing to strengthen the services we provide in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.”

Jasem Greval, Chief Executive Officer, Smile Together

What’s next?

Gloucester is just the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Smile Together.

We’ll continue to invest in our services across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, while working with partners in Gloucestershire to understand the needs of the communities we now serve.

Wherever we work, our ambition remains the same: to improve access to high-quality dental care and tackle oral health inequalities.

We’re incredibly proud of our teams who have helped make this next step possible — and excited to see the difference Quayside Dental Centre will make for patients across Gloucestershire.
