We did it — Smile Together is officially B Corp recertified!

Our B Corp recertification marks another proud milestone in Smile Together’s journey as a business that truly exists for good. When we first became the UK’s first B Corp dental practice in 2022, we were thrilled to achieve a score of 122.9 — well above the 80-point threshold. Three years later, we’ve raised the bar again with a new score of 152.5.

But this isn’t just about the numbers. It’s about what those numbers represent — the real, positive change we’ve made for our people, patients, community, and planet.

What being a B Corp means:

It’s a global certification that measures how a business impacts its governance, workers, community, environment, and customers (patients). To recertify, organisations must show measurable, credible improvements across these areas — not just intentions.

Behind the Score: 5 Ways We Levelled Up Our B Corp Impact:

Governance – Leading with Transparency

Score change: +24.7%

Since 2022, we’ve strengthened how we manage and monitor our impact. We’ve updated and formalised policies around ethics, transparency, and conflicts of interest, and improved how we track social, financial, and environmental performance.

These changes make us more accountable and ensure we remain a purpose-driven, employee-owned organisation our patients and partners can trust.

Workers – Supporting Our People

Score change: -1.5%

Our slight dip reflects consistency rather than decline — we’ve maintained strong foundations. This includes our Employee Assistance Programme, Real Living Wage commitment, and health and safety standards.

We’ve continued to invest in development through leadership programmes and internal promotions, introduced a breastfeeding policy, and sustained flexible work options such as part-time, remote and job-share roles.

Our aim remains simple: a workplace where colleagues feel supported, valued, and able to grow.

Community – Giving Back, Together

Score change: +91.6%

This was one of our biggest increases. Over 50% of our workforce, management, and board identify as women, and we continue to build inclusive environments with accessibility features, gender-neutral facilities, and support for apprenticeships and those with learning or emotional disabilities.
Most of our team are local employee-owners living in Cornwall, and over 80% of our goods and services are UK-sourced.
We contribute to community wellbeing through donations, outreach, advocacy, and by prioritising areas with high deprivation and unmet dental need.

Environment – Reducing Our Toothprint

Score change: +62.4%

We measured our carbon footprint for the first time this year, giving us a baseline for future reduction. We’ve switched to renewable energy where possible, transitioned to electric and hybrid fleet vehicles, and continued supporting Plant One Cornwall to enhance local biodiversity.
This reflects our commitment to delivering care that doesn’t compromise the planet.

Customers – Putting Patients First

Score change: +28.4%

We continue to serve vulnerable groups, including veterans, fishermen, and patients from the NHS waiting list. Through Smarter Smiles, we deliver oral health education and train others to share this knowledge.
We’ve created ‘easy read’ materials to make dental advice accessible to everyone, regardless of literacy levels.
For our patients, being treated by a B Corp means compassionate care designed to improve long-term oral health and wellbeing.

Why It Matters

Becoming — and remaining — a B Corp isn’t about chasing a score. It’s about holding ourselves accountable to the values that define us: doing business in a way that benefits everyone we touch.

Our latest recertification shows that we’re continuing to raise the standard for what responsible dentistry can look like. It’s proof that a dental practice can be a force for good — for people, patients, community, and the planet.

And this is just one more step.
We’ll keep improving, keep learning, and keep smiling — together.
