Nick Findjan
Finance Manager
I manage a small team of finance professionals and oversee a range of daily, weekly and monthly activities to ensure that financially our business is on a solid footing and we’re meeting our key performance indicators. This embraces everything from recording daily financial transactions, banking, purchase and sales ledger, weekly cash flow review and forecasting, through to monthly management accounts. I liaise closely with our financial advisers, consider historical costings and future capital spend proposals in line with our business plans and budget, providing financial prudence prior to them going to Board. I am also responsible for budget setting, management and review, producing monthly finance reports for Board, management and budget holders, as well as meeting statutory finance reporting requirements.
It’s a challenging role but so rewarding working as part of such a mutually supportive finance team. In fact that’s one of the things I find most inspiring about working in Smile Together – the team spirit and passion for what we do! It really is a great environment within which to work – a stable and innovative social enterprise with a real ambition for future business growth, working with some long-term contracts focused on delivering excellence in patient care.
I’ve enjoyed a long and successful career in finance which began costing and cash balancing at Southend Airport for short haul flights. My brother had a private practice in Surrey, took me on as a trainee accountant and when Baker Tilly acquired that practice I trained with them, which included significant audit experience. I transitioned into the audio-visual industry in Surrey progressing to finance manager then finance director, and then realised our family dream of moving to Cornwall. Initially working as finance manager for a Plymouth-based company providing CPD training for accountants, I then joined Bedruthan and Scarlett Hotels (Red Hotel Group) and was finance manager there until joining Smile Together early in 2019.
Outside of work I enjoy keeping fit, going to the gym (training for my first triathlon sprint). I also like motorsport especially motorcycle racing, breeding Labradors and the countryside.
