Practice Manager for Keast Mews Dental Centre, Saltash

As Practice Manager and the CQC registered ‘responsible person’ for our fully private Keast Mews Dental Centre in Saltash, I have day-to-day responsibility for overseeing the clinical and commercial aspects of our practice. I ensure we operate effectively, are compliant, adhere to governing bodies’ rules and regulations, and deliver excellent patient care, whilst achieving targeted private practice growth.  I recruit to and carefully co-ordinate the work of our team, making sure they have the support, equipment, systems and passion to deliver an excellent service. I also get to use my hands-on dental nursing skills and experience, stepping in to provide patient care whenever needed.

The most fun aspect of my role is being part of such a great team, both locally in Saltash and across the whole of Smile Together. Working alongside our principal dentist Liz and being involved in the very early stages of developing our brand-new practice at Keast Mews in Saltash has been incredibly exciting and rewarding, building the team and our business there. That’s also been one of my biggest challenges in this role, delivering what’s required by key deadlines – oh, and ensuring the team are kept refreshed and fed with hot beverages and snacks!

Before joining Smile Together I worked as a bay nurse at the University of Plymouth Peninsula Dental School, supporting the students in treating patients on the open bays, helping them with things like cross infection guidance, mixing materials, referrals and going through various guidelines as well as the medical emergency trolley. I also led triage days where I would meet new patients attending for treatment at the school, to discuss with them what to expect as a patient there, as it is very different to general practice.

Prior to this I was a dual-site practice manager within a corporate dental company.

I chose to pursue a dental career because I’m very people-orientated, am passionate about patient care and I honestly like teeth – I find everything associated with oral health interesting!

I joined Smile Together in 2022, inspired by their range of community initiatives aligned with their mission of tackling oral health inequality, doing what they can to make a difference to those across the county. They are also a certified B-Corporation, evidence that they genuinely care about their social and environmental impact – something else that I am passionate about.

To someone considering working for Smile Together, I would say why wouldn’t you want to work for a company with such an amazing ethos, which strives to make a sustainable difference.

Outside of work I spend my time chasing around after two young children but enjoy mountain biking and snowboarding and have found a new love of rock climbing.
