We are thrilled to have been shortlisted for a ‘Best Community Contribution’ award in the Western Morning News Business Awards 2017. This is in recognition of our Brighter Smiles oral health campaign, through which we have so far helped almost 1,000 school children in the most deprived areas of Cornwall, and other exciting initiatives enabling us to reach out to refugees, homeless people, the elderly and local fishermen.
In the summer, over a 2 week period, 27 volunteers from the Smile Together team travelled 1500 miles around Cornwall to bring much needed dental treatments and oral cancer screenings to homeless people, disabled people, refugees and even local fisherman (who can’t commit to regular appointments) via a mobile dental unit hired by us from Dent Aid. Maria Cockle, one of the volunteers, said: “The response we had was incredible! It was so rewarding to care for patients who really needed our support. I will certainly put my name down for the next opportunity.”
Our key partners have really embraced our Brighter Smiles Campaign with both Cornwall Council and brand agency Fuel committing five-figure sums to the cause. Indeed the latter has adopted Brighter Smiles as its CSR campaign for 2017.
We find out the result of this exciting award shortlisting at a glittering awards ceremony St Mellion on 16th Nov.
