Dentures

Dentures are used to replace lost or missing teeth so you can enjoy a healthy diet and smile with confidence. Dentures are made of either acrylic (plastic) or metal. A ‘complete’ or ‘full’ denture is one which replaces all the natural teeth in either the upper or lower jaw. Not only do they restore function, allowing you to eat a much wider variety of foods and thus maintain a balanced diet, they also offer support to your existing teeth.

Your dentist will take dental impressions in order to create dentures that fit your mouth well, are comfortable and look natural. This includes colour-matching the dentures to your existing teeth.

Please speak to a member of our dental team for more information about dentures, including an estimate of costs.

Crowns

A crown or ‘cap’ is an artificial restoration that fits over a tooth that has become weak or damaged, thus strengthening the tooth and preventing further damage. Crowns are made from ceramic or porcelain and are created to blend in with your existing teeth in size, shape and colour.

Your dentist will prepare your tooth’s surface for capping and take an impression of the remaining part of your tooth in order to create a crown that fits perfectly and looks natural, giving you renewed confidence in your smile as well as restoring the tooth’s function – you won’t need to avoid tougher foods, or worry about causing further damage by chewing.

Bridges

A dental bridge is a type of dental prosthesis (or ‘false tooth’) which bridges the gap between two teeth. If you have lost one or two teeth to decay or because of an accident, a bridge can make your smile complete again. Missing teeth can cause problems with eating and speaking, as well as affecting the health of nearby teeth, so it is important to fill gaps in order to restore function and maintain good oral health.

Your dentist will prepare the teeth either side of the gap and take measurements for the dental bridge to be made. Once it is ready, your bridge will be fitted securely into place. Our dental team can answer any questions you may have about the process, including how to take care of your dental prosthesis. With proper oral care, your bridge can last for many years.
