Two members of our Penzance dental team were thrilled to be nominated by one of their patients for the Cornwall People First Above and Beyond awards 2022. They were all even more delighted to be chosen as winners!

Dental Nurse Sarah Andrews and Dentist Paula Souto were nominated by their patient Sam While for being so kind and for taking special care to make sure he feels safe and comfortable at his appointments with them.

The award organisers shared that: “It was such a pleasure for us to hear from Sam about what wonderful, caring people Paula and Sarah are and how they go the extra mile for their patients with learning disabilities and autism. They were nominated for an Above and Beyond Award by Sam (one of their patients and one of our members) and were voted winners by our board of trustees, all of whom are adults with learning disabilities or autism, so it really is an award from the people they work so hard to support. Not only do they directly impact peoples’ experience of going to the dentist, they also act as great role models for others and that is a precious gift to us all”.

Since we announced Sarah and Paula as winners, lots of other people have told us how kind and caring they are too! So, to Sarah and Paula, it’s a big THANK YOU from Sam and from all of us at Cornwall People First – you make our world a better place”!

In equal measure, Paula and Sarah were both surprised and honoured to receive this award, as Paula explained: “Thank you so much to Sam and his mother for thinking of Sarah and I for this award. Being chosen means the world to us as we do try our best for all the patients we see, and to know that this has not only been observed but acted upon is a truly great honour”.

Sam presented the awards and certificates in person to Paula and Sarah in July 2022 at the Lescudjcack Centre in Penzance, where they practice and, as you can see from the images below, it was very special indeed for all concerned, including Sam’s Mum!
