Each year, Smile Together asks its team members to nominate and choose our corporate charity of the year. As an organisation, we then get behind various fundraising activities from cake bakes and coffee mornings to raffles and sponsored events.
In 2015/16, our chosen charity was CLIC Sargent – we raised over £1000 for a cause that supported the family of one of our team members.
In 2016/17 our chosen charity was the Alzheimers Society – we raised £1200 with various events through the year.
In 2017/18 our chosen charity of the year was Cornwall Air Ambulance – like us, this is a critical local service so it has been a pleasure fundraising for them in innovative and fun ways, especially as this year the charity announced their major new helicopter appeal. Our fundraising activities included in-house competitions, raffles and silent auctions at events such as our annual Smile (Get) Together. Fellow employee-owned Stephens Scown very kindly donated their ‘Love Where you Live’ campervan for a weekend at our event in December 2017 which proved very popular! Our fabulous team also contributed items to sell in the Air Ambulance charity shops – in summer 2018 we delivered no less than 20 full bags to the charity’s warehouse, and our 2017-18 fundraising total was £2500!
For 2019 we have chosen to continue our support of Cornwall Air Ambulance and their New Heli Appeal – raising £2.5m to bring a faster and bigger air ambulance helicopter to Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly by 1 April 2020.
We also support and encourage individual team members to support our Brighter Smiles campaign and community outreach activities such as Smiles at Sea, including through volunteering, to bring more smiles to more communities across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
