After graduating from Leeds University and completing his foundation training in practice in London, Deo made the move to Cornwall to work at Smile Together at our Harleigh Road Dental Centre in Bodmin. Here he does a mix of NHS dentistry, private and urgent care. Deo explains: “I really love working at Smile Together. Everyone is amazing and the team is so friendly and passionate about what they do. Working here allows me to have such a variation in what I do day to day, meaning no two days are the same. You can also just pop to the beach after work with the great team that we have!”

As an early-career dentist working in our urgent and emergency service Deo treats those patients most in need and being able to perform minor oral surgery with the assistance of other experienced colleagues really helped his confidence grow. He says that “urgent care has been a great opportunity for me to increase my confidence and competence in doing simple and sometimes more advanced extractions. I really like how it is a very fast paced day – it keeps me on my toes! I also like the fact that there are more experienced clinicians around to learn from.”

He also represented Smile Together at the national BDA Conference and Exhibition in Birmingham, supporting clinical recruitment and helping the company grow as much as possible in order to help local people in Cornwall who so often struggle to access dentistry. As a values-based, mission-led organisation, impact is at the heart of everything we do and Deo enthuses that it is so rewarding working here and knowing that every day we make a difference to those in need.

Deo explains that one of the reasons he chose to work for Smile Together was because “I really like the ethos and values of the company. We’re a B Corporation which means we give back to the community and to the environment.” Smile Together achieved its B Corp certification in July 2022, independent verification that we meet the highest standards of social and environmental performance, public transparency and legal accountability in balancing profit and purpose.

Deo has been a fantastic advocate for Smile Together and in February 2024 he attended a training conference for Foundation Dentists in the South West where he spoke with the dentists about his career and why he made the move to Cornwall. This was a great opportunity for the dentists to find out more about Smile Together and how we do things differently.

To anyone considering working for Smile Together Deo says, “it is a really fun environment to work in and the team are great! I’ve made some really amazing friends since moving here.”

Outside of work Deo enjoys spending time with family and friends and exploring Cornwall.
