We are delighted to welcome Laura Smith to our Brighter Dental practice in Newquay which operates from Newquay Hospital on St Thomas’ Road, right in the heart of the community.
Originally from Stafford, Laura studied dental therapy and hygiene at Birmingham University Dental Hospital, graduating in July 2017. She moved to Newquay with her twin sister and they are loving the friendliness of the town, its attitude towards sustainability and the environment, and of course the surfing!
Laura says: “Newquay is a really lovely, friendly town where many people have active lifestyles and are very health-conscious. It’s a great place in which to be practising and helping to keep those lovely smiles healthy and bright”.
Laura is very keen for people to realise that dental hygiene therapy isn’t just about the traditional scale and polish to remove plaque – it’s a much more holistic oral health care approach to keeping gums healthy and strong. Gums are a good indication of an individual’s overall health and wellbeing, a window to the rest of their body, and she therefore encourages her patients to attend for regular appointments. The current half-price initial appointments with both Laura and dentist Jon make this treatment accessible and enable more people to benefit from regular dental care, plus children go free with Brighter Dental up to and including age 17.
Laura continues: “As a dental hygiene therapist I have gained an additional level of qualification which means I can support our Newquay dentist Jon with fillings, impressions, children’s extractions, fissure sealants and fluoride varnishing, and he refers many of his patients to me. At Brighter Dental, patients can make direct access hygiene therapy appointments without seeing the dentist first and many welcome this opportunity to talk to me about their oral health care – I’m very friendly and approachable”.
Laura also works in our Brighter Dental practice in Bodmin and her services in both locations are covered under our ‘Patient Plan’ enabling patients to spread the cost of regular check-ups, hygiene therapy appointments or more complex dental work.
Brighter Dental is part of Smile Together and the team at Newquay Hospital work alongside their West Country Dental Care colleagues who provide urgent dental treatments for people who don’t have their own dentist, including out-of-hours surgeries and children’s orthodontics. As a community interest company 100% of our profits are reinvested into frontline services and our community, so being a patient with Brighter Dental really is good for you and good for your community!
